Organization: Girls Not Brides
Closing date: 12 May 2023

Background

Girls Not Brides is the only organisation uniquely focused on creating and sustaining a worldwide movement to end child marriage and ensuring that this movement leads to tangible change for the girls at risk or affected by the practice. We are a network of over 1,600 civil society organisations in over 100 countries working in partnership to end child marriage.

Our vision is a world without child marriage where girls and women enjoy equal status with boys and men and are able to achieve their full potential in all aspects of their lives.

Over the last decade, despite intensified global research efforts to inform strategies to address child marriage, there has been little synergy between evidence generation and the implementation of programmes and policy designed to end the practice. The disconnect between research and programming is reflected in the limited uptake of evidence-based child marriage findings to inform policy and programmes and to support mobilisation of resources to end the practice.

In 2021, Girls Not Brides convened a virtual Africa Action Group convening with the objective of reviewing the state of the existing evidence base and identify the biggest knowledge gaps and priority areas for future research and investment. One of the key take-aways from this convening was the need to strengthen linkages between research and practitioners through providing support for practitioners to translate evidence into practice is needed.
